Preparing to Launch - Borders Wellness Retreat

Preparing for Launch

After a few months of planning, a lot of coffee meetings and bags of enthusiasm and support, Borders Wellness Retreat is up and running!

Following the initial idea back in September 2018, we have had loads of business support from Scottish Borders Business Gateway and Firstport, as well as The Bridge, based in Jedburgh.

Basically, we are social enterprise with a charitable purpose. This means we are going to help people by putting on free or subsidised events for those living with cancer, and/or their carers.

We are going to fund all of these grand adventures through fundraising in various guises, selling merchandise, commercial retreats, gift experiences and offering bespoke corporate events.

It has been a gargantuan voyage of discovery, with lots of legal and financial paperwork, but it’s been great, knowing that this is all about helping ‘people like me’. Making a real difference to people who are going through / have been through crappy times.

Our long term goal is to have a purpose-built facility in the Scottish Borders, a drop-in centre open to all, open seven days a week – days and evenings – with en-suite rooms for those who are coming to stay for the wellness retreats. A place to come and try all types of activities including crafts, exercise, counselling, beauty, cooking, woodworking, gardening and therapy pets to name just a few!

All of this will be delivered in partnership with local businesses across the region, with the aim of true collaborative working, creating jobs in the local economy and bringing visitors to The Borders.

The current aspiration is to have our facility up and running within three years, so keep watching to see how we grow – and ultimately how each and every person can make this dream come true!

At the end of the day, our motto sums it all up…

“Take time. Be you.”
